Figuring the spine width of a perfect-bound
book is a relatively easy task. To do this, you will need to know the final page count and the
type of paper your book will be printed on. Once you have this information, your spine will
need to be calculated to the nearest 32nd of an inch.
When figuring the spine, you take the page count
and divide by 2 and multiply that number by the caliper of the paper. Below is a chart of the
house paper and its caliper.
EXAMPLE: 128 pages divided by 2 = 64 x
caliper .0039 = .2496 = 1/4"
